Range Cookers

Welcome to our Range Cookers page at Low Prices.

Is it worth buying a range cooker?

If you are serious about your cooking, then a range cooker will be a valuable asset in the kitchen. You will find it makes cooking quite a lot easier, as you have the extra hob space and the higher capacity ovens.

Most range cookers have six or more burners, and you will really find this handy when cooking complex meals.

The typical freestanding cooker only has an oven capacity of 50 to 60 litres, but a range cooker could have a capacity of up to 150 litres.

Having multiple ovens will let you cook different constituents of your meal simultaneously, saving you cooking time overall.

Also, a range cooker will really add to the aesthetic appeal of your kitchen, being a real feature and focal point for the kitchen.

Owning a range cooker will make cooking more fun and pleasurable! It might even make you want to cook more.

What features do range cookers commonly have?

They come in various widths, from 80cm to 150cm.

Many have a fast wok burner, which means a stir fry can be prepared quickly and easily. Choose your design carefully though, as some people find that a larger burner in the middle can get in the way, so choose a design with the wok burner to the side.

They typically have large hobs, so you won't be limited by hob space so often. Some have interchangeable hob tops, e.g. you can put on a cast iron griddle plate, useful for searing meat and fish.

There are a huge number of oven, grill and hob combinations to choose from. Whatever your cooking requirements, you should be able to find a design that meets them.

If you like roasting meat on a spit, look for a cooker that has an integrated Rotisserie oven.

The grill may be separate or it might be part of one of the ovens.

They can have various specialist ovens, e.g. slow ovens, warming compartments and tall ovens. However, our preference would be two proper ovens rather than having one of these specialist ovens.

You'll usually find an electronic timer to help you with your cookery timing.

On the hob, you'll often have pan supports made of cast iron.

When choosing your hob, bear in mind how easy it will be to clean.

What are the main fuel types for range cookers?

Dual Fuel Range Cookers have gas hobs and electric ovens. The dual fuel is the most popular type of range cooker because people like the responsiveness of gas hobs coupled with the performance of electric ovens.

Electric Range Cookers are often referred to as all electric range cookers and have electric hobs and electric ovens.

Gas Range Cookers are all gas range cookers, i.e. they have gas hobs and gas ovens. People usually buy this type because they particularly like cooking with gas ovens. These are fuelled by the Irish domestic natural gas supply.

LPG Range Cookers are those that use Liquefied Petroleum Gas for the hob, and then either electricity or LPG for the oven. The main benefit here is that LPG can be supplied by an external tank, making this type suitable for installation at properties without a mains gas supply.
